On September 29 (local time), US President Trump announced that a new round of tariffs will be imposed on softwood and wood products imported from certain countries.

A 10% tariff will be levied on imported softwood logs and lumber.

A 25% tariff will be imposed on imported kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and upholstered wood products.

This new tariff policy will officially take effect on October 14 this year. Additionally, some tariff rates will see a further increase starting January 1 next year.

In fact, there have been early signs of this development. Since March this year, the US Department of Commerce has already launched an investigation into wood and its derivatives, including cabinets and furniture. The current tariff hike can be regarded as a substantive measure following this investigation.
